R.C.I.A. — Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults

A journey of faith for adults seeking the sacraments

What Is R.C.I.A.?

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (R.C.I.A.) is the process through which adults prepare to enter the Catholic Church. It is designed for those who have not been baptized, those baptized in another Christian tradition who wish to become Catholic, and baptized Catholics who have not yet received the sacraments of Confirmation and Eucharist.

R.C.I.A. is not simply a class — it is a gradual journey of prayer, study, and reflection within the parish community. Participants explore Catholic teaching, Scripture, and the sacramental life of the Church at their own pace, supported by sponsors, catechists, and the wider parish family.

The Sacraments of Initiation

Through the R.C.I.A. process, participants prepare to receive the three sacraments of initiation:

Those already baptized in another Christian tradition typically prepare for a profession of faith, followed by Confirmation and Eucharist. Baptized Catholics seeking to complete their initiation also journey through R.C.I.A. toward Confirmation and Eucharist.

Who Can Participate?

There is no set timeline — each person's journey unfolds according to their readiness and God's grace. The process typically culminates at the Easter Vigil, when the Church joyfully welcomes new members.
